The history of Multichem begins in 1996, when Piotr Muszkieta and Chris Welgraven decide to establish their own company. The business is founded during a demanding period of economic transformation, when young entrepreneurs have access to far fewer tools and opportunities than they do today.

Multichem’s first headquarters is located in Poznań and covers approximately 250 m². This is where the foundations for the company’s future growth are established: technological expertise, an initial product portfolio and the ambition to expand beyond Poland. The small scale of the business requires considerable flexibility and personal involvement from both founders. The experience gained during these early years provides a foundation for Multichem’s future product development and international growth.

The year 2000 marks a turning point in Multichem’s history. The company creates the Profix brand and develops a portfolio of automotive paints, clearcoats, hardeners and thinners.

In the same year, the brand makes its international debut at Automechanika in Frankfurt. The contacts, knowledge and inspiration gained at the event open the way for Multichem’s broader presence in the European market. Participation in the trade fair gives the company a better understanding of international standards and the expectations of foreign partners. Recognition of the Profix brand begins to grow, while its product range is systematically expanded. Profix starts to play an increasingly important role in strengthening Multichem’s position in the refinishing market.

In 2004, Multichem opens its first company store, giving customers direct access to the full range of products offered by the company. The new store also becomes an important point of direct contact with the users of Multichem solutions.

This allows the company to better understand its customers’ needs, expectations and everyday challenges. Direct service reduces the distance between the manufacturer and the professionals using its products. Customer feedback can be communicated more quickly to the teams responsible for developing the product range. The store becomes an important place for exchanging knowledge, experience and practical information about the use of Multichem products.

In 2005, as the company and its team continue to grow, Multichem relocates its headquarters from Poznań to Luboń. The larger facility provides the space required to expand operations, develop warehouse capacity and serve an increasing number of orders.

The new headquarters allows Multichem to organise its daily operations more effectively and increase the scale of its activities. Expanded warehouse facilities improve product availability and support service for a growing customer network. Multichem also strengthens its industry presence through regular participation in Automechanika and other international trade fairs. The investment provides the foundation for the company’s next important technological step, which follows in 2006.

In 2006, Multichem introduces AquaLine, the first water-based refinishing system developed in Poland. Its launch marks an important stage in the advancement of colour-matching technology and responds to the changing needs of the market.

AquaLine products offer strong coverage and precise formula matching. The system helps users achieve predictable results in their everyday colour work. Combining strong coverage with formula accuracy improves the efficiency of the entire refinishing process. AquaLine quickly gains recognition among customers in Poland and abroad, strengthening Multichem’s position as a company developing its own technologies and setting new industry standards.

In 2012, an important chapter in the company’s history comes to an end as one of its founders, Chris Welgraven, enters a well-earned retirement. At the same time, the American Automotive Art group becomes a co-owner of Multichem.

The new partnership creates opportunities for further expansion and sales development across the Atlantic. Combining Multichem’s experience with Automotive Art’s international perspective strengthens the capabilities of both partners. The company gains additional support in reaching new customers and developing its presence beyond Europe. From the beginning, the cooperation is built on mutual trust, shared values and a long-term approach to growth.

In 2013, Multichem introduces KolorBox, an innovative tool supporting automotive paint colour selection. The solution changes the way customers can browse, compare and choose suitable colour variants.

KolorBox makes the colour-selection process simpler, faster and more precise. Its organised presentation of colour samples makes it easier to assess the available options and identify the shade best suited to a specific repair. The tool supports the everyday work of refinishers and helps reduce uncertainty during colour selection. KolorBox demonstrates that Multichem provides not only high-quality products but also practical solutions that improve its customers’ work. Its introduction strengthens the company’s position as an innovator in colour-matching solutions.

In 2014, responding to customer expectations, Multichem creates its Mobile Training Centre. The new solution allows the company to reach customers directly and provide practical training in different locations across Poland and abroad.

Customers gain access to knowledge, product demonstrations and practical support without having to travel to the company’s headquarters. The mobile format makes it possible to adapt the scope of each training session to the conditions and needs of a particular market. Direct meetings also support a more effective exchange of experience and allow Multichem to address questions arising in everyday work. The project helps the company build closer customer relationships and develop their technical knowledge. The Mobile Training Centre becomes an important part of the practical support provided by Multichem.

In 2017, Multichem begins work on another innovative project, the Adam V spectrophotometer. The device is developed to simplify and improve the colour-matching process as much as possible.

Adam V enables precise colour identification, providing the information required to find the appropriate paint colour. The use of measurement reduces the need to base colour-selection decisions solely on visual assessment. As a result, the matching process becomes easier, faster and more efficient. The project combines Multichem’s colour expertise with the development of modern measuring tools. Work on Adam V prepares the company for the continued development of integrated colour-matching solutions.

In 2018, Multichem introduces Profix Refinish System, a breakthrough solution designed to improve the colour-matching process. Its key feature is the ability to connect a spectrophotometer with Cloud, an online colour-formula application.

Measurements taken with the spectrophotometer can be transferred to the application regardless of the user’s location. This makes it easier to search for the correct formulas and organise the next stages of paint preparation. The system is further expanded with the MC MIX automatic dispensing machine. The machine precisely dispenses and mixes toners, accelerating the preparation of the required colour. Combining measurement, online formulas and automatic dispensing improves the accuracy, repeatability and efficiency of the entire process. Profix Refinish System confirms Multichem’s technological direction and integrates its essential colour-matching tools into one solution.

In 2018, Multichem acquires a new headquarters in Tarnowo Podgórne, underlining its commitment to continued growth and expansion. The acquisition marks an important step in the company’s history and responds to the needs created by the increasing scale of its operations.

The new location provides Multichem with additional production, warehouse and office space. It supports better organisation of its teams and the development of facilities required to serve customers and partners. The investment prepares the company for future technological, product and training projects. The headquarters also becomes a symbol of Multichem’s stability and long-term approach to development. The move to Tarnowo Podgórne provides the foundation for the company’s next stage of growth.

In 2019, Multichem opens the Profix Global Training Centre at its new headquarters in Tarnowo Podgórne. The modern facility provides access to knowledge, research and information that is not normally available under standard workshop conditions.

The centre includes a dedicated training area and a colour laboratory with eight fully equipped workstations. Training participants can also use a full-size spray booth. The facility is completed by an automated machine capable of dispensing paint with a high level of accuracy. This professional environment combines theoretical knowledge with practical testing of products and technologies. The centre supports the development of customer and partner expertise while demonstrating the full capabilities of Profix systems. Its opening strengthens Multichem’s role as a company providing not only products but also knowledge and specialist support.

In 2022, Multichem introduces Simplex, a new brand offering a broad range of high-quality products for industrial coatings. The brand is created in response to the diverse needs of customers operating in the industrial segment of the coatings market.

Simplex provides straightforward and effective solutions available in a broad and consistent colour range. Its portfolio is designed for practical application and predictable working results. The brand’s clearly defined profile makes it easier for customers to select products that match their requirements. The launch of Simplex expands Multichem’s portfolio and allows the company to better serve another important customer group. The new brand demonstrates Multichem’s understanding of the diverse applications and expectations of the modern coatings market.

In 2025, Multichem introduces the new A6 spectrophotometer, setting another standard for precision and speed in colour identification. Compact, lightweight and intuitive to use, the device is designed for body shops, paint-mixing facilities and industrial plants where accurate colour matching is essential.

Its five-angle measurement technology enables precise analysis of demanding surfaces, including three-stage colours and curved vehicle body panels. Advanced LED lighting and a built-in thermometer help maintain measurement accuracy under different working conditions. The high-capacity battery supports up to 2,000 measurements on a single charge, while an individual measurement takes only 2.7 seconds. The A6 becomes an integral part of Profix Refinish System, connecting mobile colour measurement with the other stages of the process. Results can be transferred wirelessly to the Cloud application, making it easier to search for and verify the appropriate formula. The A6 helps users work faster, more accurately and more efficiently during everyday colour-matching tasks.

In 2026, after more than three decades of development, Multichem opens a new chapter in its history. A refreshed visual identity and a new website organise the way the company, its portfolio and its technological expertise are presented.

The changes communicate the relationship between Multichem and its Profix and Simplex brands more clearly. The new communication reflects what the company is today: a European manufacturer and technology partner combining product quality, specialist knowledge and practical customer support. The refreshed image maintains continuity with the experience and values developed over more than 30 years. At the same time, it better reflects the current scale of the company and its international ambitions. The new website provides a consistent space for presenting Multichem’s brands, solutions and technological capabilities. The rebranding marks another step towards Multichem’s continued development in international markets.
